About Me

I am a Physician at Stanford University and a published author of many books. I am a clinical associate professor of medicine, Founder and Program Director of a Cardio metabolic and Lifestyle Medicine program called SMILES – Stanford Metabolic Intervention with Lifestyle Empowerment Support Group at Stanford. I hold my MD from Kilpauk Medical College, India, and MBA from Isenberg School of Management, UMass Amherst. I completed my residency at University of Connecticut. I hold triple boarded certifications in Internal Medicine, Obesity medicine and Lifestyle Medicine.
I practice obesity medicine and lifestyle medicine. I focus on the prevention and reversal of chronic diseases, including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, and fatty liver. I am the clinical lead for the ICDP (Improvement Capability Development Program), a joint venture between the Department of Quality for Stanford Healthcare and the Stanford School of Medicine on the management of obesity. I am also the clinical lead for VBC (Value based care) project on MASLD (Metabolic Associated Steatotic Liver Disease). I am a Co Investigator on MASH Care Pathway study to implement EHR care pathway for clinicians to risk stratify MASLD and MASH. I have a special interest in global public health and have conducted a variety of health awareness and wellness camps in rural India.

The Stanford Metabolic Health Interventions and Lifestyle Empowerment Support (SMILES) Program aims to empower patients to achieve better cardiometabolic health through evidence-based obesity management and lifestyle medicine interventions, leveraging multi-disciplinary team-based care. Our vision is to create a healthier community by transforming the way we approach cardiometabolic health – through personalized, preventive, and partnership-driven care that is informed by the latest evidence in obesity and lifestyle medicine.
